The Goshawk
Accipiter gentilis

The plumage of this splendid bird of prey is greyish
brown and quite uniform, with strokes of white on
its breast.
The lower parts of the wings are light in colour.
The female is not as dark as the male.
The bird has a black beak and yellow claws.
The juvenile has a rather dark plumage with reddish
streaks, a yellowish nape and a dark beak.
The Goshawk varies between 50 and 60 cm in length
with a 12 cm wingspan.
During flight its wings are rounded but not
particularly long compared to the overall length of
its body. On the other hand, its tail is much more
developed both in terms of width and length.
The Goshawk lives in dense forests alternating with
open spaces , bushes and cultivated grounds.
It is a powerful hunter and its hunting strategy can
include exploratory flights or ambush attacks.
