Barn Owls
Tyto alba

It is a nocturnal bird of prey and spends the day
sheltering in lofts and attics. During the night it
flies over fields hunting its prey.
Its back is a yellowish brown, the breast and face
are white and it has brown markings on its back and
underparts.
It has long claws and a 80-95 cm wingspan.
It has an effortless wavering flight as it quarters
pastures or similar hunting grounds.
The Barn Owl feeds on micromammals, voles, frogs and
insects and a minor part of the prey is made up of
birds and reptiles.
It does not usually build a nest but uses those of
other birds or the cavities it finds in trees and
attics.
