THE NATURE PARK OF BOSCO DI TECCHIE

The Nature Park (800 metres above sea level) is made up of about 195 hectares and is located in the borough of Cantiano, in the Province of Pesaro and Urbino. The Bosco di Tecchie is in the Serre, a long hilly ledge made up of a double row of small hills having certain features of environmental and natural interest.
This place is of fundamental strategic importance as it is an ideal ecological passageway which allows many species of animal to move easily along the Apennine ridge. The area is in fact full of age old beech-woods and Turkey oaks and depending on the exposure of the slopes is flanked by heaths of common heather (Catluna vuigaris).
Along the so-called Fosso dei Cerreti there is a narrow strip of vegetation characterised by the hornbeam: here the tail end of the ditch is fascinating where the wood takes the shape of a tunnel with specimens of vegetation typical of moist environments. In the area near the forest the abandonment of cutting and clearing pastures has caused the wood to grow creating an almost continuous strip of pioneer shrub vegetation such as: The Wild Pear [Pyrus piraster], The Dog Rose, Juniper (Juniperus communis] Common Hawthorn [Crataegus monogina], Blackthorn [prunus spinosa] and Traveller’s Joy [clematis vitatbae].
